Aqua is the International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient (INCI) name for Water. It is often the most abundant ingredient in any skincare product and, as such, normally appears first on any ingredient list. As well as providing hydration, water acts as an effective solvent with the ability to dissolve and combine other active ingredients.

Unlike anhydrous products, skincare that contains water requires the addition of preservatives to prevent unwanted bacterial growth.
