Gluconolactone
Gluconolactone is an exfoliating polyhydroxy acid (PHA). Much like Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA), PHAs work by gently unsticking the ‘glue’ that keeps dead skin cells together. By effectively removing these dull dead skin cells, Gluconolactone can brighten skin and contribute to a more even skin tone.

Due to its molecular structure, Gluconolactone penetrates the skin slightly less than conventional AHAs and is, therefore, considered less sensitising. This, combined with its hydrating properties, makes it a nice option for people with sensitive skin types.

Ambo derives its Gluconolactone from fermented glucose syrup obtained from non-GMO Corn. Due to its gentle nature, we combine Gluconolactone with other AHAs to make a combination of acids that effectively exfoliate skin whilst minimising the potential to cause irritation.
